Overview of the Catskill Forest Association

The Catskill Forest Association, also called "CFA", is a non- profit organization dedicated to enhancing all aspects of the forest in New York's Catskill region. The region's hardwood forests:

  • provide wood & fiber to industry world-wide
  • offer world-class trout fishing streams
  • supports a rich diversity of plants and animals
  • host tourists from around the world
  • encompass New York City's watershed
  • have supported generations of families through farming and logging

Through our programs, CFA works to ensure that the Catskill Mountains have a productive, working forest for present and future generations.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Catskill Forest Association is to promote forest stewardship in the Catskill region by forest landowners, timber harvesters, foresters and the general public. The association advocates quality forest management practices (especially forest stand improvement practices or "FSI") for the purpose of improving the health of the forest, preventing threats to the forest ecosystem (including "high-grading"), and supporting conservation efforts.
